This product comes from a Fair Trade organization called Kuapa Kokoo. The Kuapa Kokoo cooperative was created in 1993 when cocoa farmers in Ghana united to negotiate better prices for their cocoa and empower small farmers. Kuapa Kokoo now represents 45,000 cocoa farmers and has a stake in the first farmer-owned chocolate company in the world, Divine Chocolate Ltd. The cocoa farmers participate directly in the decisions made by the organization and share in any potential profits at above-market premiums which allows them to fund projects like schools and wells.

Fair Trade Winds has two retail locations on the east coast and is thankful for all of its online customers from all over the country! As the first exclusively Fair Trade store in Bar Harbor, Maine and Fairfax, Virginia, we are a family-run business committed to helping alleviate global poverty and increase social responsibility through fair trade. The store seeks to empower consumers to become an integral part of a cooperative effort that benefits farmers, artisans, and the environment. If you are in the Washington, DC metro area, we welcome you to our Fairfax store. We are open Monday through Saturday 10:00 am-9:00 pm and Sunday 12:00 pm-6:00 pm, and located between University Drive and Chain Bridge Road, next to Panera Bread. Plenty of free parking.

In Bar Harbor, our winter store hours are Saturday and Sunday, 12:00 pm-6:00 pm. In the spring and summer, we are open Monday through Saturday 10:00 am-9:00 pm and Sunday 12:00 pm-6:00 pm, and will stay open later if Bar Harbor is still hopping! Customers say their vacation to Mt. Desert Island or Acadia National Park is not complete without a trip to our store.
