A lot of kitchen gadgets sit idly on the shelf, collecting dust, hoping for the day you’ll remember them and make some extravagant dish. Pasta rollers, salad spinners, and clunky countertop mixers all sit in gloomy wonder as the ever-POPular popcorn machine gets used over and over again. But it’s just so easy to use!
Halloween is a great time to make popcorn – it’s a festive snack that can easily be made salty or sweet, depending on your mood or the occasion. We decided to test two fair trade recipes: Fall Spice Popcorn and Cocoa Popcorn. They pair well together and you could use them for a Halloween Party or just a fun snack this week as you’re getting in the spooky spirit!
**We used the following fair trade ingredients: olive oil (SERRV), spices (Frontier Co-op), sugar (Wholesome Sweeteners), and cocoa powder (Equal Exchange)**
We popped up some spooky fun in this new video. Check it out!
Fair Trade Popcorn Two Ways
Fall Spice Popcorn
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of popcorn kernels
- 3 tablespoons fair trade olive oil
- 1 tsp fair trade ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp fair trade ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp fair trade ground cloves
- 2 tsp fair trade ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup fair trade sugar
Directions:
1. Add olive oil to popcorn popper; pop kernels
2. While it’s popping, combine spices, salt and sugar in a small bowl.
3. As soon as popcorn is done put it in a large bowl and sprinkle spices on top. You may want to use a bowl with a lid so you can shake it up to cover each piece. It’s best to do while the popcorn is still warm so the spices stick better.
Enjoy!
