Planning to visit Bar Harbor, ME this summer? It’s a particularly nice spot to stay in the summer months, with plenty of activities for the whole family. Tons of hiking, boating, biking, and climbing if you’re adventurous, or just mosey along the rocky shore and explore the tide pools.
After a day of exploring you can refuel at a number of great local restaurants. Obviously the fresh seafood is a must! Bar Harbor also seems to have more ice cream shops per capita than most small towns, but you won’t hear us complaining!
If it’s one of those foggy Bar Harbor days, when you surely won’t see any whales on a whale watch, let alone the end of your arm, then it’s a good day to meander the streets and go shopping. There are galleries, tourist shops, specialty Maine-made arts, stores that sell jewelry, stores for pets, fancy food shops and then there’s us – Fair Trade Winds!
Our shop is part of a historic building that sits on the corner of Main Street and Firefly Lane and looks out over the Village Green with an old bandstand that has music every week in the summer. We carry Fair Trade products of all kinds and for every kind of Bar Harbor visitor. Our most popular products include unique purses made from a tall grass in Cambodia, recycled glass from Ecuador painted with local Bar Harbor scenes like a lobster boat or a stone bridge, colorful capiz shell wind chimes, brass bells, decorative garlands, and a variety of fair trade clothing, earrings and scarves.

Be sure to add us to your itinerary!
Bar Harbor is definitely a special place for the Fair Trade Winds family. We love that it’s a small town, but people come from all over the world to visit and it’s the home of our first store. We opened in May of 2007, in a much smaller space than our store now, and we have loved being part of a town that cares about its connection to the community as a whole, both the natural world and the people who inhabit it. If you do visit Bar Harbor, be sure to stop and see us, tell us where you’re from and why you love fair trade!
