What are Quilling Cards?

Quilling cards are handmade greeting cards made from hundreds of tiny coiled paper strips, shaped one by one into flowers, butterflies, birds, and other designs. The technique dates back centuries, but today it's kept alive by skilled artisans in Vietnam who treat each card less like stationery and more like miniature works of art.

Handcrafted, One Hour at a Time

Every quilling card in this collection starts as a printed design template. From there, an artisan threads a strip of Kishu paper — a high-quality Japanese paper — through a slotted quilling tool and coils it into shape using fingers and tweezers, gluing each piece into place before moving to the next. A single card can take a full hour of hands-on work before it's finished. That hour is what separates a quilling greeting card from a printed one: the texture, the dimension, and the small human variations you can only get from paper shaped by hand.

Fair Trade & Artisan-Made

These aren't mass-produced cards. Each one is handcrafted by women artisans in Vietnam working through a verified fair trade partnership, which means fair wages and safe working conditions are built into every card you buy. Fair Trade Winds has been Fair Trade Verified since 2007, so when you shop our quilling card collection, you're supporting artisan livelihoods directly — not just buying a gift.

A Card for Every Occasion

This collection covers the full range of life's moments — handmade birthday cards, wedding and anniversary cards, sympathy and get-well cards, thank-you cards, and holiday and seasonal designs featuring butterflies, florals, birds, and garden scenes.

Because each card is a genuine piece of paper art, many customers frame their favorites instead of mailing them — a quilling card makes an easy, ready-made gift that doubles as wall décor.

Quilling Card FAQs

Quilling is the art of rolling, coiling, and shaping thin strips of paper into decorative designs. It dates back centuries and is sometimes called paper filigree.

About one hour of hands-on artisan work goes into shaping and assembling each card, from the first coil to the finished design.

Yes. Every quilling card in this collection is handmade by artisans in Vietnam through a verified fair trade partnership, and Fair Trade Winds has been Fair Trade Verified since 2007.

Artisans use Kishu paper, a high-quality Japanese paper prized for its strength and flexibility when rolled into tight coils.

Absolutely. Because each card is a dimensional piece of paper art, many customers display theirs in a frame rather than sending it through the mail.

Yes. Their raised, dimensional design adds thickness and weight, so check with your local post office about additional postage before mailing.
